THE Surf Coast Shire is encouraging residents to support local businesses in the lead-up to Christmas, highlighting the economic importance of strong trade during the holiday period.
The council has this year released a guide promoting some of the gifts, produce and experiences available locally, as part of its “Share the Surf Coast Spirit” campaign.
The gift guide includes suggestions that range from art and retail items to food, wine, wellness activities and nature-based outings.
It also features a list of the community markets taking place across the shire in the coming weeks.
Cr Joel Grist said local spending plays a significant role in sustaining businesses over summer.
“By choosing to buy local at this time of year, you’ll find great gifts and quality fresh produce, and you’ll also be giving back to the local community,” he said.
“The Surf Coast has a wide range of retailers, food and drink producers and unique experiences to choose from, and by supporting them, you’re strengthening our Surf Coast economy and helping our community to thrive.”
The Shire’s new Share in the Surf Coast Spirit campaign aims to celebrate the festive season and all that locals love about living in the region.
For a chance to win one of two $100 prizes, locals are invited to share photos of their decorations, celebrations and festival pets on Facebook or Instagram by tagging @SurfCoastShire and using the hashtag #SurfCoastSpirit.
