Residents raise funds, enjoy long-awaited event

December 10, 2020 BY

Neil and Pauline take part in Star of the Sea's Aged Care Residence fundraiser for the Cancer Council last week.

STAR of the Sea Aged Care residents enjoyed a great day on Wednesday last week, raising more than $2,000 for the Cancer Council.

The fundraiser was the great work of Julie-Ann Rhodes, who has been a long-time supporter of such charities.

Aged care residents and independent living residents were able to have a family member join them for National Patio Day, a Cancer Council initiative, which saw several games played, a raffle and a barbecue.

Star of the Sea Aged Care’s Trish Bunworth said it was a really positive day and it was just great to see the residents enjoy this type of day that has not been possible for so long.

“It was lovely because it was the first time in a long time they were able to sit down together.

“Cancer has touched so many of us, we all know someone who has dealt with it in some way.

“They had a lot of fun and the weather was good and it was nice to enjoy an event for the first time in a long time.”
