Restoration works continue at Kennett River
MORE than 550 trees and shrubs have been planted to help restore the riparian zone of Kennett River.
Kennett Community Action Group hosted a planting day last week with the assistance of the Great Ocean Road Coast and Parks Authority (GORCAPA) to revegetate the area.
The riparian zone of Kennett River is beloved by the local community but has been under stress due to increased tourism and pressures on local wildlife.
The works will help improve conditions for wildlife, increase biodiversity and minimise the impact
of visitors.
Kennett Community Action Group purchased and propagated the seeds for the planting, with assistance from GORCAPA to select the species.
GORCAPA conservation ranger Inala Swart said the area was now in a fantastic state.
“Over the past few months, our conservation team has been hard at work managing weeds and spreading mulch.
“We recently undertook a cultural heritage induction and pre-dug holes for the plants to ensure everything was ready for a big day of planting.”
Taking a “citizen science” approach, the Kennett Community Action Group will assist GORCAPA in monitoring plant health and weed management.
