Local therapeutic surf charity Ocean Mind is searching for some new facilitators to ride waves and make a positive impact on young people’s lives.

Ocean Mind is currently taking expressions of interests for new team members for its 2024-25 season.

The not-for-profit is hopeful of attracting passionate individuals who are willing to help build young people’s confidence, resilience and skills both in and out of the water.

A Surf Coach Qualification is essential, as is a current Working with Children’s Check.

Experience in youth mental health, autism awareness, mental health first aid and child safety is also desirable.

Service for a fee manager Ben Wilkinson said Ocean Mind was all about riding the wave to positive change.

Ocean Mind assist young people experiencing mental health challenges, social isolation and disabilities.

“Facilitating with Ocean Mind just gives you so much more than the rewarding experience of teaching people to surf.

“It’s also about working with a young person and building that rapport and relationship over time to help develop them toward the goals they want to achieve.

“It’s all things self-confidence, self ethicacy and giving young people exposure to different people. It’s all really rewarding stuff.

“Being in the ocean is just so powerful. We look forward to more people being apart of that.”

Ocean Mind will host training sessions in September for those interested in jumping on board.

Sessions will be held in Ocean Grove, Anglesea and Torquay.
