GEELONG based men’s mental health not-for-profit organisation Right Mate’is teaming with the Geelong Racing Club for ‘A Right Mate Race Day’ to raise money for men’s mental health.

Right Mate was launched by Geelong friends Chris Lytas and Luke Outerbridge who aspired to change the narrative and stigma around men’s mental health.

The organisation seeks to put an emphasis on men’s mental health through its online hub platform which links to community-based men’s groups, professional services and resources in which people can access help and guidance.

The June 17 race day event, which falls within Men’s Health Week, aims to foster conversations regarding men’s mental health.

“We are thrilled to be partnering with the Geelong Racing Club to deliver an event that focuses on highlighting and speaking about men’s mental health at a fun and inclusive setting like the racecourse,” co-founder of Right Mate, Chris Lytas said.

“Social connection is a massive piece in the men’s health field at the moment and to bring everyone together in an inclusive event like this will be a great way of bouncing back from the difficult pandemic period.”

Taking over the racing club in Breakwater on Friday, June 17, the event is set to include guest speakers from Barwon Health as well as racing experts who will help with the track form and provide some funny banter.

“There is plenty of men who love heading to the races, and by capturing that captive audience, we thought it would be a great way of leveraging some great messages around men’s mental health in an enjoyable and immersive setting,” Geelong Racing Club sponsorship, sales and marketing manager Jackie Price said.

“We are grateful to be supporting a great local organisation like ‘Right Mate’ who no doubt support our community in a multitude of ways.”

Tickets for the day are $85 and are inclusive of event entry, a two-course buffet lunch and racebook. Drinks will be at bar prices.

Fundraising auctions are also slated to happen on the day.
