TORQUAY Rip Curl staff have started this month with a team surf to officially launch the 2025 SurfAid Make A Wave campaign.

More than 30 people gathered at Torquay Point on Monday to begin their month-long fundraising journey for global humanitarian aid group SurfAid.

Surfers will paddle out every day this month to raise vital funds for remote surfing communities in need.

All funds will support basic healthcare and sanitary items in small villages in Indonesia, Nias, Mexico and the Solomon Islands.

Rip Curl head of environmental, social, and governance Shasta O’Loughlin said the team was thrilled to get their fundraising under way.

“Everyone seemed to have a really good time and shared a few stories… it was definitely really successful as our first one.

“I haven’t looked too far ahead with the forecast, but we are hoping for some nice conditions throughout the rest of the month.”

Rip Curl is currently sitting in second place on the overall surf crew leaderboard, having raised more than $11,000 globally.

More of our US crew have joined our Aussie crew and signed up and joined the team, which is really terrific,” O’Loughlin said.

“It’s a great start fundraising-wise… we raised even $200 on the morning of the surf just on bacon and egg rolls, too.”
