THE Surf Coast Shire and Geelong are now co-hosting this year’s UCI Gran Fondo World Championships, with the action moving to Lorne tomorrow (Saturday, October 18).
Riders will take on a 131km road race along coastal and forest roads, starting and finishing on Mountjoy Parade.
Almost 2,000 of the best amateur racers from more than 60 nations will compete across age categories for the sport’s coveted rainbow jersey of world champion.
Like previous years for Amy’s Great Ocean Road Gran Fondo, road closures will be in place tomorrow throughout the four races (in order): the UCI Gran Fondo World Championships, Amy’s Gran Fondo Rec Ride, Family Fondo and Medio Fondo.
The Great Ocean Road will be closed in both directions between Skenes Creek Road, Skenes Creek and Albert Street, Lorne from 8.30am to 4.30pm.
The principal detour route for the Great Ocean Road both eastbound and westbound, is via the Princes Highway through Winchelsea to Colac, then along the C155 from Colac through Gellibrand to Lavers Hill and vice-versa.
There will be multiple road closures from Lorne to Skenes Creek, and also inland.
