FORMER Jun Juc resident India Robinson has described yesterday’s Challenger Series win at the Gold Coast Pro as the biggest of her young surfing career.

The 22-year-old (14.17) defeated American Sawyer Lindblad (10.17) in the final, after defeating Australian legend Stephanie Gilmore in the semis, to emerge victorious in Queensland yesterday (Saturday, May 13), taking a major step forward to requalifying for the World Surfing League’s Championship Tour.

“It feels so surreal right now, this week has just blended into one, I just can’t believe it, I’m lost for words,” Robinson said post-win.

“100 per cent it’s the biggest win of my career, I got a second in a Challenger event to Brisa [Hennessy] a few years ago. To win one now, it’s another level and I’m so stoked.”

Robinson has faced adversity in the past year, overcoming obstacles including sustaining a major concussion, and not requalifying for this year’s Championship Tour.

Yesterday’s win now sits Robinson at the top of the 2023 Challenger Series.

“I’m beyond grateful for the support, my team at Surfing Australia, friends and family, I couldn’t do it without them,” Robinson said.

“A special shoutout to Victoria, shoutout Jan Juc Boardriders and the crew down there, love you guys.”

Robinson also defeated up-and-coming Barwon Heads surfer Ellie Harrison in the Round of 16.

Up next for Robinson is the Sydney Surf Pro, which will run from May 17-24.
