Rock2Ramp excitement ramping up

ANGLESEA’S largest coastal swim returns this month with almost 1,000 swimmers expected to descend on Point Roadknight to take part.

The Anglesea Surf Life Saving Club Rock2Ramp will enter its 27th year on December 28, a day after the town’s opening event of the weekend, the Anglesea Roo Run.

Anglesea SLSC’s club manager Raylene Fordham said the Rock2Ramp is an important day on the town’s calendar, as well as the club’s.

“This Ocean Swim is a much coveted event attended by serious ocean swimming competitors,” Ms Fordham said.

“Members of the community also look forward to participating in a fun competition with like-minded ocean swimming enthusiasts.

“Held against the stunning backdrop of the Anglesea Cliffs, swimmers can choose from three distances; 600m, 1.2km and the 2.5km swim.

“Kids don’t miss out either, there is also the 200m and 300m Kids Dash swims.”

Organisers say over 800 swimmers took part in last year’s raising crucial funds for the club’s operations.

In the headline races, Claire Milligan celebrated her first place win in the open women’s swim over the 2.5km course for the second year in a row, claiming a time of 34:45.

Clancey Luscombe took the podium in the men’s event in 29:50, with one second separating the next two place-getters Matt Gilling and Harry Manolopoulos.

“The Anglesea SLSC organising team works hard every year to make sure that the event can be enjoyed by all ages and abilities, 12 years and over,” Ms Fordham said.

“Supported by an enormous amount of volunteers, the Rock2Ramp proceeding will commence at 9am with same-day registrations opening from 7.30am.”
