MORE than 500 athletes turned out on Tuesday evening’s hot weather to take part in the 2022 Roo Run event, running along the beaches and bush trails of Anglesea.

Held each year as a fundraiser for the Anglesea Motor Yacht Club, runners and walkers of all levels took on three different course lengths, a 1.5km, 4km and 8km course to test their capabilities in the 37-degree temperatures.

More than 500 entries were taken for the event.

“We were really happy with the entrants and the number of people, particularly with how hot it was on the day,” Collins said.

“Our volunteers were fabulous and we had plenty of them across the course, including the Surf Coast Trail Runners who marshalled the backend of the course.

“We were also thrilled to have past winners return and it was lovely to have local people of elite level like our 8km winners in Ellie Pashley and Julian Spence support the event.

“It was truly terrific and certainly a success!

Post-event, athletes enjoyed an ice-cold drink at Point Roadknight’s Rusty Anchor Bar, which has now opened back up for the summer season.

At the time of publication, the winner of the Go Ride a Wave Surf n Turf (Roo Run and Rock 2 Ramp Swim combined) was undetermined.
