Roo Run to hop into Anglesea this December

ROO RUN organisers are encouraging Surf Coast community members to get their entries in for Anglesea’s December 27, 2022 Roo Run.

Anglesea Motor Yacht Club (AMYC) hosts the annual fundraising event which calls on seasoned campaigners, weekend joggers, social walkers or those just starting out there running career to take on the beautiful scenic oceanside course across a 1.6km, 4km or 8km course.

This year, the Roo Run will traverse along the cliffs and beaches of Point Roadknight, Soap Rocks and Anglesea, past the Anglesea River and explore elements of the Coastal Walk trail before finishing up on the boat ramp outside the Anglesea Motor Yacht Club.

 

Roo Run Race Director Mick Collins said organisers were excited to host which features plenty of fun challenges for competitors of all abilities.

“The course is the same as every other year, and it looks as if it’ll be a mid-tide, meaning we will finish the race on the beach which is exciting,” Event Director Mick Collins said.

“We are still running the event in conjunction with the Anglesea Surf Club and will be hosting the Surf n Turf which will be our 8km run with their 1.2 km swim and it’ll be the best overall combined time.

 

“We also have another event called the 2XRoo where people run the 4km and then have a ten-minute break and run the 8km, which is a good challenge for those wanting to test themselves.”

This year in conjunction with the Anglesea Football and Netball Club, the race will also have a special category for the first Male and first Female from the club over the line.

 

Collins said the Roo Run was thrilled to welcome back a range of sponsors and event supporters who will be assisting with race day activities this December.

“Anglesea Primary School will run the BBQ, the Anglesea Lions Club will run the parking, Surf Coast trail runners will do the marshalling around the course and the Men’s Shed are going to do the drinks around the course,” Collins said.

“It’s great to have them all involved and to work in with these organisations.”

Post-race, competitors will be able to sit back and relax at the Rusty Anchor Bar at Point Roadknight which will be having its opening night on December 27.

Mr Collins said that the event committee looks forward to welcoming runners from far and wide to take part.
