Rotary to pop up with a book fair
A SUDDEN influx of books has led the Rotary Club of Torquay to announce a surprise pop-up edition of its annual book fair.
The book fair is a fixture for the club and typically runs every January, but the club has recently and unexpectedly received about 450 boxes of books from a kind-hearted private donor in Melbourne.
Torquay Rotary Club member Greg Plumridge said the club was already at storage capacity in Torquay with books for the 2023 book fair, so it had been stockpiling the new boxes at Arthur Reed Photos, the Grovedale business of Rotary member and former president Michael Reed.
“Now we have the problem that we have more than enough books in Torquay for January, and we don’t really want to have to double handle the 450 boxes in Grovedale, hence the quick decision to hold the pop-up sale in a few weeks’ time.”
Books, many of them in hardcover, will be available for sale for $1 each, with quality titles and authors available.
The club is looking forward to welcoming the community along to have a look through the many boxes of books available and consider stocking up for their summer reading.
Mr Plumridge said all proceeds would go towards supporting Rotary projects.
The Rotary Club of Torquay Pop-Up Book Fair will be held at the rear of Arthur Reed Photos, 148-154 Marshall Town Road, Grovedale, on October 22 between 9am-3pm.
