Sailor to read from her account of 12 years at sea

November 14, 2018 BY

Though she spent 12 years sailing alone on the hunt for waves, Liz Clark doesn’t describe herself as the best sailor.

A LIFELONG dream of locating the most beautiful waves in the most remote parts of the world proved to be the driving force in Liz Clark’s decision to set sail on a 40-foot sailboat named Swell, a hand-medown from her former professor.

The then 22-year-old took off from the Santa Barbara harbour in 2005 and spent the better part of 12 years mostly alone on the water.

The mentally and physically challenging expedition, despite its obvious setbacks, led the southern Californian activist to where she is today; an author.

Having enjoyed journaling while out at sea, Clark has revealed all the highs and lows in her tell-all book – which shares the same name as her sailboat – Swell: A Sailing Surfer’s Voyage of Awakening.

Readers will learn of her journey through Mexico, Central America, the Galapagos, French Polynesia and afar, from repairing broken engines to contracting a rare fungal infection, Captain Clark spares no detail in her honest account of life on water for over a decade.

In her upcoming book tour – in partnership with Patagonia – Clark will be celebrating her autobiography and how her sailboat transported her across 20,000 miles of sea.

Liz Clark will be reading from her book tomorrow, Friday November 16 at Patagonia Torquay, 116 Surf Coast Highway, Torquay from 6pm until 8pm.
