Sailors rescued after vessel overturns off Torquay
EMERGENCY services have rescued two sailors after they fell overboard off the coast of Torquay this afternoon.
Police, water police, ambulance and State Emergency Services from the Torquay Unit responded to the call for help from the overturned vessel about a kilometre off Whites Beach just before 2pm.
An SES spokesperson said the two sailors were unable to right their vessel – which later washed ashore – or get back aboard.
The Lifesaving Victoria rescue helicopter winched one of the sailors from the water, and both were returned safely to shore by 2.38pm.
Paramedics assessed the two sailors at the scene but did not need to transport them to hospital.
