Santa and fun await at Jan Juc Playgroup Christmas event
THE Jan Juc Playgroup will next week host its annual Christmas party celebration for its members, volunteers and any local families interested in joining the playgroup next year.
The party, at Bob Pettitt Reserve, will feature face painting, Christmas crafts, train rides, a raffle and morning tea, and attendees are encouraged to don their best festive threads for the occasion, with prizes for best dressed up for grabs.
Santa will also make an appearance.
“This is a magical time of year, so it’s really lovely for us to be together and celebrate the end of the year,” Jan Juc Playgroup president Whitney Phillips said.
“The most important thing is coming together as a little community and for the kids and for the parents to get that social connection.”
Based out of the cricket club rooms at Jan Juc’s Bob Pettitt Reserve and run by a not-for-profit organisation, the playgroup aims to bring together young children, parents and families to learn and socialise through informal play.
“We’ve got lots of different toys in the cupboard there that we can get out, and tea and coffee for the parents,” Ms Phillips said.
“It’s just a wonderful way of socialising, and I’ve met some of my main connections through playgroups and my best friends here in Torquay through it.”
The playgroup has been held throughout the year on Tuesday mornings between 9.30am and 11.30am.
Prospective members are encouraged to keep an eye on the organisation’s social media pages to see which days it will operate next year.
With the right numbers, the playgroup hopes to be open two days a week through 2025.
“It’d be great for people to come [along to the Christmas party] and see the space and see if it’s something they want to be a part of,” Ms Phillips said.
The event will be held on Tuesday, December 10 at the Bob Pettitt Pavilion in Sunset Strip in Jan Juc between 9.30am and 11.30am.
