SANTA Claus puffed into the Bellarine Peninsula on Sunday, taking a break from his busy Christmas schedule for a ride with excited children on the Portarlington Bayside Miniature Railway.

Jolly old St Nick made two appearances on Sunday at the railway, which drew more than 330 passengers over the course of the day.

“We had a startlingly good day, with quite a few people,” PBMR president Brian Coleman said.

“It’s the first time we’ve had a good tally since we restarted our operations on December 6.

“We were pleased with the result, and the kids loved it.

The Silver Beats also performed at the event.

“There’s something unique about that little railway – it’s close to the beach, and the only miniature railway that’s close to the foreshore in Australia. We reckon it’s a great place.”

The railway will run between 11am and 4pm every Sunday, and also on Wednesdays from December 30 to January 20.
