SANTA is heading to the Surf Coast next month, stopping in Torquay and Lorne for free photos and festive family activities.

He will arrive with a surfy twist, complete with his own surfboard, at the Torquay Visitor Information Centre on December 6 between 10am and 1pm.

His visit falls alongside the Torquay Library’s annual family fun day, which will feature an array of craft activities, board games and a festive market filled with locally made, artisanal stocking stuffers.

Surfy Santa will then visit the Lorne Visitor Information Centre on Saturday, December 13 between 10am and 1pm, where children are invited to great creative by adding to a giant colouring wall.

A tripod will be available for phones and staff will be on hand to assist with photos.

Children can also drop off letters for Santa at either centre until December 18 to receive a reply before Christmas.

Surf Coast Shire mayor Libby Stapleton encouraged families to get involved and enjoy the festivities.

“Everyone is invited to come along, see Santa and get into the spirit of the season,” she said.

“You can use your phone to get a free photo with Santa and enjoy all the festival activities happening at our visitor information centres.

“We look forward to welcoming lots of people through the doors.”

Santa will also appear at community carol events across the shire and will visit the Anglesea shopping strip on Friday, December 19 between 3pm and 4pm. He will be accompanied by roving carollers.

Each of these events form part of the shire’s new Share in the Surf Coast Spirit campaign, which aims to celebrate the festive season and all that locals love about living in the region.

For a chance to win one of two $100 prizes, locals are invited to share photos of their decorations, celebrations and festival pets on Facebook or Instagram by tagging @SurfCoastShire and using the hashtag #SurfCoastSpirit.
