SURF Coast Energy Group (SCEG) is calling for registrations for the Surf Coast’s first Community Solar Program – a month-long roadshow offering households free, unbiased expert advice on how to cut their electricity bills by up to 90 per cent.

SCEG has teamed up with “solar marketplace” ShineHub and community groups Frack Free Moriac, Geelong Sustainability, and Scouts Victoria to deliver the Community Solar program across the Surf Coast region.

The goal of the program is to implement a people-powered solution to Australia’s energy crisis that supports local jobs, suppliers and community groups.

The innovative schemes that will be offered exclusively through the Surf Coast Community Solar Program will help homeowners and small business cut through the confusion of selecting a solar system and/or supplier, to access a better deal and ultimately, to drastically reduce their electricity bills.

The program will offer exclusive access to Australia’s first ‘Free System Solar’ Plan, allowing households to have a solar and battery system installed for free and “community rates” on solar and battery systems.

SCEG president Pat Onesta said the response to the Community Solar Program has been overwhelmingly positive, with more than 700 residents registered for the program across the region thus far.

“The timing has never been better, residents are fed up with the rising costs of electricity. The program is a great opportunity for Surf Coast residents.

“There are options available for everyone; even small businesses can benefit with up to 100kW solar systems being available through the program.

“People have become wary of pushy solar sales people and door knockers and just don’t know who to trust – this is a truly community-driven solar program and we hope to give residents a trusted avenue to access solar and batteries.”

A free information event will be held at Grant Pavilion in Torquay on Thursday May 31 at 6.30pm.
