MORE than 40 young lifesavers attended a special mental health themed workshop at the Jan Juc SLSC clubhouse at the weekend.
The Jan Juc SLSC and local mental health and suicide prevention charity the Shaka Project teamed up to deliver lifesaving insights at the first carnival of the Life Saving Victoria season.
Founder of The Shaka Project Sean Phillip opened up to competitors about his own personal mental health journey and his mission to crush the stigma on speaking up.

Groups then had an opportunity to share any of their own insights as well participate in fun activities which opened up conversations on personal wellbeing and growth.
Jan Juc SLSC competition manager Tim Watson said it was a fantastic opportunity for lifesavers to look out for each other out of the water.
“The crowd was so engaged and the couple of interactive exercises were great to get the crowd thinking about their own mental health.
“I think all our competitors got plenty out of the presentation and we hope some great action can follow in the future.”
