Shire celebrate International Women’s Day

Ms Gilmore (centre) led a grassroots discussion on gender-based violence and celebrating women.

GENDER-based violence author and advocate Jane Gilmore was the guest of honour at an International Women’s Day celebration in Torquay.

The event took place at the Shire’s Council Chambers.

 

The Tedx Talk speaker and author headlined a free event at the Surf Coast Shire Council Chambers on Wednesday this week.

More than 80 people were in attendance for the question-and-answer session, including shire mayor Mike Bodsworth and chief executive officer Robyn Seymour.

Ms Gilmore shared her important work in the gender equality space, including her decade-long FixedIt campaign which has helped to change how media report on men’s violence against women.

The event also included question time and a shared lunch.
