Shire hears feedback on Torquay Town Centre project

THE proposed vision for Torquay’s town centre has attracted significant community interest, with the Surf Coast Shire receiving more than 150 submissions on the issue.

Shire councillors held a hearing of submissions committee meeting about the Torquay Town Centre Project at the council chambers on Tuesday night.

Landowners, developers and residents have expressed their views on the draft documents released by the shire, as did the Torquay Commerce and Tourism Association, the Surf Coast Energy Group and the 3228 Residents Association.

According to a report presented to councillors, there were a range of views expressed through the submissions, “however the majority were opposed to the proposed building heights” – which will be up to five storeys in some places.
