Shire to celebrate IDAHOBIT

THE Surf Coast Shire will mark IDAHOBIT – the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Intersexism and Transphobia – with a celebration next week.

The shire’s event will feature guest speaker Michelle Sheppard.

A trans woman with two daughters, Sheppard is an acclaimed presenter on JOY FM program “Out, Loud, Proud”.

The theme for this year’s IDAHOBIT is “Alliances for Solidarity”.

The rainbow flag – which is still flying outside the council chambers – will stay up until May 24, when it will be taken down.

The IDAHOBIT event will be held in the council chambers in Torquay on May 17 from 5pm.
