Shire, VEC to host candidate information session
THE Surf Coast Shire will partner with the Victorian Electoral Commission (VEC) to host a free information session for aspiring local candidates.
The event on Wednesday, September 4 at the council chambers in Torquay will provide important insights into the election process and requirements, and the roles of the council and councillors.
The session will include presentations from the VEC election manager as well as Surf Coast Shire chief executive officer Robyn Seymour.
Ms Seymour said the shire was pleased to partner with the VEC to provide vital information to candidates.
“We encourage aspiring candidates to come along, even if they have contested previous elections or attended information sessions for previous elections as many aspects will have changed.”
Election of nine local councillors will proceed via postal vote during October, with election day slated for October 26.
Following the Victorian electoral structure and ward boundary review, each ward (Otway Range, Torquay and Winchelsea) will be represented by three councillors each.
All state and shire-enrolled voters must vote. People with more than one property have only
one vote.
Candidate nominations open on September 9 and close at noon on September 17.
The September 4 session will run from 6pm to 8.30pm.
