Show’s ready to go

November 13, 2017 BY

“COUNTRY charm meets city excitement” is the catch cry for this year’s Geelong Show which promises to be a fantastic day out for all.

Kids can get up and close with an array of animals as the regions agricultural industry arrives in town for the October 19-22 weekend.

The shows operations manager Vanessa Wight said organisers were hoping to bring the old-fashioned country show back to life and give families a taste of the farm-life.

“We’re focusing on the agricultural experience and we’ve got all the usual cows, horses and sheep but we’ve also got goats, alpacas, canaries, donkeys and rabbits,” Ms Wight said.

“There will be opportunities to watch livestock judging, walk through pavilions to see animals and also Harry’s Farm Yard from Camperdown Dairy.”

Ms Wight said the farm yard gives kids the opportunity to interact with an assortment of animals and is included as part of the entry fee.

“We’ve tried to keep the costing as reasonable as possible to enable as many families to be able to participate. Compared to similar events it’s very family friendly with regards to costing,” she said.

“A family ticket for two adults and three kids is $55 and a single adult ticket is only $20. On top of the agricultural aspect we’ve also got lots of free entertainment with the sideshow alley and fireworks Friday and Saturday night.”

Show goers will also enjoy live entertainment.

“A lot of the kids that live in Torquay or Armstrong Creek or Ocean Grove may not get to view and interact with the (agricultural) side of life. The show is a great opportunity for the public to see how much the animals are loved and cared for by farmers and to see the animals up close.”
