ANGLESEA local Max Simpson toasted his World’s Greatest Shave campaign with friends and family over the weekend, shaving off his blonde locks to celebrate the $4920 he raised for blood cancer.

On Saturday, Simpson hosted a ‘shave rave party’ with friends and family at his home in Anglesea, with top shavers getting the pleasure to rid the 24-year-old of his long wavy hair that would have no doubt kept him a bit warmer during these colder months.

Simpson raised almost double his fundraising goal of $2500 to notch up close to $5000 in proceeds which he said was something he was remarkably proud of.

“I was gobsmacked by the generosity of my friends and family, I think because it’s a disease that everyone is affected by one way or another it is something that everyone doesn’t mind supporting,” Simpson said.

“To double my original goal makes me very proud and to know that the money is going to go to a great cause.

“The head will be a little cold and it feels a bit strange to have the shaved head but I’ll just have to sunscreen up and wear a hat or beanie till it warms up!”

Simpson said the show of support, particularly from team-mates at the Anglesea Football Netball Club was monumental, with Matthew Connell, Rafferty Leeman and other locals donating a huge $500 each to the fundraiser.

As the highest individual donors, Leeman and fellow members of the Anglesea Netball team including Naomi and Beth Caulfield and Myee Lowerson-Peric were given the pleasure of shaving Simpson’s head.

After three years of fundraising for the cause, Simpson has now raised over $10000 for World’s Greatest Shave so that patients and their families don’t have to face cancer alone.
