Site-clearing works begin in Apollo Bay
MAJOR site clearing works are under way at Apollo Bay Recreation Reserve to help pave the way for increased camping opportunities.
The works will boost camping site numbers at the site in anticipation for a busy summer season.
Temporary fencing will section off the immediate works area, with contractors moving through the accommodation precinct to demolish and remove abandoned vans and annexes.
The weekday works will not limit access to the sports and recreation facilities in the reserve.
Great Ocean Road Coast and Parks Authority (GORCAPA) director of infrastructure and planning Cath Olive said the works will help provide a more diverse range of accommodation options.
“It aims to increase camping opportunities for all, and to improve access to the coast.
“This includes accessible tents for travellers of all abilities.
“The project form part of a series of improvements that we’re aiming to deliver for the camping, recreation, and sporting facilities in the reserve.”
The Camping Uplift project is backed by the Victorian government and GORCAPA.
Works are expected to be complete in three weeks.
