The Sound Doctor to prescribe more music for Anglesea

February 21, 2018 BY

Jessie Lloyd will bring her Mission Songs Project to Anglesea later in the year through a gig presented by The Sound Doctor.

THE Sound Doctor will again host music in Anglesea through a grant from the state government’s Small Regional Presenters program.

Last week, Member for Western Victoria Gayle Tierney announced the $9,042 grant, which will support contemporary music at the Angelsea Memorial Hall over two weekends between March and May, featuring Ainslie Wills, Jen Cloher, Jessie Lloyd’s Mission Songs Project, and Mama Kin Spender

The program will also include opportunities for local acts, and a workshop for children run by Jessie Lloyd.

The Sound Doctor Presents Inc (which also got a grant from the program in December) is one of 16 regional presenters to share in almost $118,000 of grants in this latest round.

“This is an exciting addition to the Anglesea events calendar for 2018 – made possible thanks to the Andrews Labor Government,” Ms Tierney said.

“The Sound Doctor Presents Inc has a great track record for producing high quality musical performances. I am thrilled the Andrews Labor Government is supporting their work.”

“We’re supporting local communities so they can host festivals, programs and performances for everyone to enjoy.”

The Small Regional Presenters program was launched in 2016 to increase the quality and variety of cultural opportunities in small regional towns.

The Small Regional Presenters program is open to regionally based arts presenters, including not-for-profit arts groups and societies, venues and local councils.

Unlike a traditional touring model that provides support for artists to take their work on the road, the Small Regional Presenters supports venues or presenters to attract shows to their area.

Grants of between $1,500 to $15,000 are available to support programs. The next round will close on March 15 for shows taking place from June 1 onwards.
