ONE of Torquay’s favourite watering holes Sou’West Brewery is toasting a special German tradition this month by offering German inspired beer and food specials.

To celebrate Oktoberfest, the world’s largest beer festival held annually in Munich, Germany, Sou’West Brewery is running special deals on hefeweizen (German inspired) wheat beer and have also sourced authentic German bratwurst sausages for the occasion.

Throughout the month, pots and pints will be $5 and $7 respectively and the popular German sausage delicacy will come at $15.

Pints of hefeweizen are $7 for the month and a Bratwurst will set customers back $15.

Sou’West Brewery Operations Manager Ishbel McAleer said some staff members had attended “the” Oktoberfest and from their enjoyment at the festival, they all thought that it would be a great tradition to bring back to the Surf Coast.

“We think it’s one of the world’s best beer festivals, drinking beer and eating interesting food is something that we all like, and if we can bring it to the Surf Coast then we think that’s pretty cool,” McAleer said.

“It’s typically in the last few weeks of September and first few days of October but we are stretching it out and putting our own spin on it.

“Luke, our head brewer is very well versed in Oktoberfest, as is Alex our chef who has really researched the Bratwurst and how we can make it as authentic as possible.”

Many staff members have ventured across to Germany to visit the offical Oktoberfest.
