ANGLESEA has a new must-stop donut shop and its sweet sprinkles of joy are sure to light up the appetite of anyone who walks in its doors.

Passionate donut lovers Vino Joseph and Jose Munuz have just opened Alonso’s Donuts at 3/141 Great Ocean Road.

The business was launched online in January and has quickly gathered statewide acclaim for its delicious donuts.

Alonso’s features more than 28 donut varieties, with new flavours set to be introduced every month.

From classic glazed, to jam donuts, to nutella, lemon, custard, pistachio, to its staple strawberry sprinkle, there’s something for everyone at Alonso’s.

The pistachio donut uses ingredients sourced straight from Italy.

“The donuts are all made with local ingredients, but some of the fillings and topping are imported from places like Italy to get that authenticity factor there,” owner Vino Joseph said.

“The pistachio is so popular over in Italy, that we thought we had to bring it from there!

“With 28 flavours, there’s lot of variety!”

The Anglesea store is the second of what will be a four-venue chain, with venues in South Melbourne and St Kilda to come in the not-so-distant future.

The donut shop has just opened in Anglesea and is sure to be a fan favourite.

“I’m so passionate about it, and it’s something we wanted to do for a long time,” he added.

“It’s been very successful in Collingwood and that’s why we are doing another one here.

“There’s nobody doing this on the Great Ocean Road, no one in the countryside.

“It’s been very well received. People are really welcoming and have been here every day getting donuts. We’ve been sold out pretty much every day.”

Mr Joseph hoped Alonso’s will become one of the must-stop pits stops for visitors and locals on the Great Ocean Road.

“We want to stop all the guys coming down the road.

“Some people stop in Lorne, some stop in the town, but we want to work out how we can get more stopping here.”

Alonso’s will also be doing special donut bun toasted sandwiches, coffees, Italian hot chocolates, and fish and chips which has been retained from the previous shop.

“We are working on a brisket sandwich on a donut bun, that’ll be our thing,” he added.

“We are next to the beach, so the fish and chips is also a must. Because this shop already had it, we thought we’d keep it!”

Alonso’s donut shop will be open 7am to 3pm Sunday to Thursday and Friday and Saturday 7am to 7pm.
