THE free bus service for the Portarlington Mussel Festival at the weekend was a great success, with many mums and dads saying thanks with their tired little ones after a big day.

Stan Campbell is a Leading Firefighter, Operational Training with the Metropolitan Fire Brigade and comes to Portarlington every summer.

Each year Stan and his friends and family catch the free bus with the same volunteer bus driver, Marg Yucker.

Stan said he had been to the mussel festival for the last six or seven years, and found the bus a fantastic idea.

“The town is so crowded that it’s difficult to find a parking spot and driving to the festival only adds to the traffic jams,” Stan said.

“Taking the bus takes all the stress out of getting there and it means that everyone can enjoy not just the mussels, but a few of the fantastic local wines and beers on sale every year.”

Stan said he loved to support all the local wineries and food stalls and really appreciated all the work the volunteers put in.

“This year seemed to be the biggest so far, and we look forward to seeing the festival go from strength to strength in the future,” he said.

Marg said all the local passengers loved the free bus.

“Each year I look forward to picking up Stan and his regular visitors,” she said.
