FORMER Surf Coast Shire chief executive officer Stephen Wall has just been appointed to the top job at the City of Wyndham in outer Melbourne.

At last night’s council meeting, Wyndham councillors appointed Mr Wall – who was the Surf Coast Shire’s CEO for more than two years and its director of corporate services for more than five years – as their new chief executive officer.

He comes to the new role from the Maribyrnong City Council, where he was the chief executive officer for nearly seven years, and will start with Wyndham on August 9.

“I am thrilled to be appointed as Wyndham City’s chief executive officer,” Mr Wall said.

“I’ve watched the work of Wyndham for many years now and I’m looking forward to joining the organisation and working with the Council to serve the needs of the Wyndham community.

“I chose many years ago to commit to working in the local government sector as I firmly believe it to be the level of government that has the most direct impact on the lives of residents.

I will bring energy and enthusiasm to working at Wyndham and can’t wait to roll my sleeves up and start working with councillors on the exciting and challenging agenda for the city.”

Wyndham mayor Adele Hegedich said Wyndham would benefit from Mr Wall’s experience as a long-term chief executive and director, having worked in the local government sector for more than 23 years.

“Council in its first year has a significant program of work to undertake to set us up for our four-year term, so Mr Wall’s experience will be invaluable in ensuring Wyndham continues to deliver for our residents and local businesses.

“Mr Wall’s experience as a chief executive officer and director in the corporate services field saw him chosen from a strong national field of candidates. His experience will allow him to hit the ground running and ensure we are well placed to continue the vital work under way at Council, including delivery of the Council Plan, Health and Wellbeing Plan and the Long Term Financial Plan.

“I know I speak for all Councillors when I say Mr Wall will provide experience and strong leadership to our more than 1,800 staff at Council and be a tireless advocate for the needs of our 280,000 residents across Wyndham.”

Mr Wall takes over as chief executive officer from Kelly Grigsby, who left Wyndham City in April.
