LOCAL surf and surfing accessories retailer Strapper Surf has been recognised for its commitment to the surf industry and achieved finalist status for two national awards.

The Torquay-born brand is up for Australian Independent Retailer of the Year – Core Board Store and Australian Independent Retailer of the Year – Multi Store titles at the 2024 Australian Surf Industry (ASI) Association Awards.

Strapper is a previous winner of both awards and is hoping to go back-to-back in the Multi Store category.

The team is also five-time Victoria/Tasmania Surf Shop of the Year winners.

Strapper Surf Torquay manager Dylan Schulze said the team was delighted to be recognised by the ASI again.

“It’s great to be consistently recognised and to be the only Victorian store nominated across the two categories.

“Fingers crossed we can get the win again this year. To go back-to-back in the Multi Store would be amazing, and we’d love to get the Core Board Store one as well.”

Mr Schulze said the key to the businesses’ success was its relationships with customers and the strength of the product it sells.

“Being disciplined and working hard is paramount, and our staff really do a great job at that.

“Keeping it local is also important to us in terms of who people want to shop with. It’s important in our ability to compete with the best of the best nationally.”

Strapper Surf has stores in Torquay, Geelong, Ocean Grove and Aireys Inlet.

The winners of the Australian SBIA Awards winners will be announced on October 24 in Manly, Sydney.
