Streetscapers with eyes to the future for Deans Marsh

A DEDICATED group of Deans Marsh residents are in the process of planning a range of streetscape improvements for the area and are asking the community for their input.

Through research and planning, the Deans Marsh Streetscapers group has identified a series of project and opportunities that can positively impact the appeal of the town, including street tree planting, a history trail, town entry signing and a community arts memorial.

To get the communities feedback on the proposed key streetscape elements, the group is hosting a sharing session this evening (Friday, February 17) at the Deans Marsh Community Hall.

An online survey is also available on the Surf Coast Shire Council’s website for locals to have their say if they are unable to make it to the physical meeting.

Deans Marsh Streetscaper James Maund said the opportunities that would be presented can make the town much more attractive.

“Some of the most attractive small towns I know are the result of the care and creativity that has gone into creating streetscapes,” Mr Maund said.

“I think there is great opportunity to improve our streetscapes through the imaginative addition of new street trees, signage and art.”

Fellow team member Juliet Beatty hopes the group can help to achieve extended avenues of trees along the approaches to Deans Marsh, while also encouraging community action in partnership with Council.

“It will help maintain the reserves beside our pathways so that using pathways is safer and more enjoyable,” she said.

The Surf Coast Shire Council will consider feedback collected as part of this process for its ongoing planning.

The project information sessions will be run in two slots, 3-4pm and 6:30-7:30pm.
