Students find artistic inspiration at Ashmore Arts
IN PREPARATION for a coming project, Torquay College’s Arts Captains went on an excursion to Ashmore Arts in Torquay earlier this month to get inspired.
Ashmore Arts is a commercial hub for local artists of all genres to work, display and create pieces for private and commercial clients.
Students Issy Behan said it was a thrill to meet the artists ahead of the coming Torquay College Makeover.

“It was an amazing experience seeing all the different artists, learning about the different areas of art and seeing how the artists’ work in their day to day lives,” she said.
“We visited lots of different artists in their studios including Kate Eliza and Minerva Lamorgese who are painters.

“We were also lucky enough to see woodworks by Eli Beke and Glen Romanis, as well as David Graham, who is a blacksmith, and Ben the printer.
“After we saw the artists, we went to Kates’s studio to do some painting ourselves.”
The students produced a variety of different paintings from abstract art to paintings of scenic nature.
“Thank you to Kate for taking us around and to everyone at Ashmore Arts for giving us this very special and enriching opportunity,” Behan said.
“We all enjoyed it and are so grateful for this experience which has enabled us to immerse ourselves in different areas of art that we didn’t know much about.”
