THE Surf Coast Suns Football and Netball Club is bringing the community together this month to celebrate its 10th year of fostering sport in the region.

A celebratory event will be held on August 16 at the RACV Torquay Ballroom and feature live music, gourmet food and drinks.

It will give members of the Suns community the opportunity to reflect on a decade of involvement in the game and build excitement for what’s ahead, with the club to step into the Bellarine Football Netball League in 2026.

Suns football president Jay Williams said the club was looking forward to reflecting on the success of its first 10 years.

“It’s a good time at the moment because we are leading into seniors next year.

“In the last three years, our committee has worked really hard as a collective to get the footy side of things up and running and developing the programs for the future.

“[Former netball vice-president] Mel Maycock, [netball president] Claire Sadler and company have also done a lot of the hard yards to get the netball up to where it needs to be heading into next year.

“The 10-year celebration is a pretty good reflection of all that and to recognise and remember the work done previously as a junior club to lay the foundations for what the club has become.”

Participation numbers at the Suns are expected to surpass the 1,000 mark next year.

“It’s been huge. Over the past five years we’ve gone from around 300-400 to 800 now, Williams said.

“Next year we expect to hit 1,000 once we have senior football and netball, some more Auskick and NetSetGo, junior football and girls football.

“It’s absolutely an exciting time for the club. We are on the track to hit the ground running and be competitive in both football and netball straight away in 2026.”

Tickets for the birthday event are on sale. For more information, head to Trybooking.
