ANGLESEA was at the forefront of a larger-than-life promotion of the latest addition of the Game of Thrones series when a mimic dragon egg washed up at its beach last week.

Locals were perplexed with the surreal scenes at the town’s beach last Thursday morning, when a four-by-two metre scaly orb appeared during the night.

The object resembled the dragon eggs that featured in the first season of Game of Thrones, which later hatched into three fire-breathing creatures for Daenerys Targaryen.

The egg’s origins were soon revealed as part of a pump-up for the House of the Dragon prequel series based on creator George R. R. Martin’s Fire and Blood novel, which follows the rise and fall of the Targaryen empire referenced throughout the original eight-season series.

The egg was crane-lifted onto a truck bearing warning signs “Dragon on board” later on Friday, where it was shipped to Federation Square for public exhibition over the past weekend.

Dragons were reportedly spotted flying over Melbourne’s city centre while the egg was perched below, with silhouettes and their screeches adding to the display.
House of the Dragon premiered this week.
