Surf Coast Century rescheduled
RAPID Ascent has rescheduled the Surf Coast Century due to the continuing impacts of the coronavirus pandemic.
For the past nine years, the Surf Coast Century has seen participants begin the epic run from Anglesea, with the 100-kilometre course taking them across the coast and through the hinterland.
About 1,400 people ran in last year’s Surf Coast Century, with even larger numbers initially forecast for this year’s edition.
The run was scheduled for September 19, but has instead been pushed back to December 5.
Rapid Ascent event director Sam Maffett said while it was disappointing news, he was optimistic about the revised date.
“We held great hope for this event since the original onset of the Coronavirus pandemic, and we are absolutely devastated to make this change.
“We know many participants have put their heart and soul into this race – as have we – and while we are all feeling considerable frustration, we’re really confident about the new race date in December.”
Rapid Ascent is providing people who sign up for the run before the end of July with a care package that will include mental and physical training support, tips, and guidance, as well as a number of exclusive sponsor offers and freebies worth almost $100.
Maffet said the care packages would help participants adapt to the changed date.
“As ultra-runners ourselves, we understand the major disruption changing a race date causes, so as some level of compensation for postponement we wanted to help runners keep a positive mindset, and adjust their training as we navigate this goal-post change.”
