THE Surf Coast Cricket Club has received government funding for a new four-lane net facility at Banyul-Warri Fields, with construction set to begin during the coming season.

The new facility has been greenlit under a Cricket Victoria and state Regional Infrastructure grant, which comes as the Suns look to grow their teams in the junior, men and women’s competitions.

Suns president Ben Tekin expressed his excitement for the new nets, and said the build wuld have a big impact both for the club and the community.

“This project is a huge step forward for our club.

“We’ve seen enormous growth in a short space of time and our current facilities have really been pushed to their limit.

“Importantly, this facility will help propel the growth of our four senior men’s teams and our newly established junior and women’s programs by providing them with the dedicated, high-quality training space they deserve to develop skills, confidence, and connection to the game.

“With senior football launching in 2026, it’s an exciting time to be part of this growing sporting family. Together, we’re building something really special — a community-driven hub where families can belong, thrive, and stay involved in sport all year round.”

He said the nets would be open and accessible to the public, local schools, and other sporting groups.

“It’s about investing in infrastructure that serves the whole Surf Coast.”

Tekin added the new facilities could be used for programs outside of cricket, further benefiting the growing Torquay area.
