New Surf Coast Shire council provisionally elected

THE new Surf Coast Shire council has taken shape, with all councillors provisionally elected earlier today (Thursday, November 7).

New faces will make up nearly half of the nine-member council, with five of the incumbent councillors re-elected.

The Victorian Electoral Commission calculated the distribution of votes and preferences from this year’s local council election at its Surf Coast Shire electorate office in Torquay, with several candidates or their representatives in attendance.

Provisionally elected councillors are listed below in alphabetical order by ward and in the order they were elected by preferences.

Otway Range Ward:

  • LIbby Stapleton
  • Leon Walker
  • Mike Bodsworth.

Torquay Ward:

  • Liz Pattison
  • Rebecca Bourke
  • Paul Barker.

Winchelsea Ward:

  • Joel Grist
  • Tony Phelps
  • Adrian Schonfelder.

These councillors will not be formally elected until the VEC’s declaration ceremony for the Surf Coast Shire, which will be held in the shire’s council chambers in Torquay tomorrow (Friday, November 8) at 11am.

Calculation of the City of Greater Geelong’s vote count will take place this Saturday, November 9, with councillors to be declared on Tuesday, November 12 at 11am.
