Surf Coast split in federal boundary redistribution

June 29, 2021 BY

Anglesea and other communities to the west of Surf Coast Shire will move from Corangamite into the federal seat of Wannon.

Boundary changes will see Surf Coast Shire split between federal electorates, with Angelsea, Lorne and Winchelsea to become part of Wannon, which is current represented by Hamilton-based MP Dan Tehan.

The Division of Corangamite will retain its name and not be renamed Tucker, as proposed earlier this year, in the electoral redistribution to take affect from July 26.

A large area of Surf Coast Shire will move from Corangamite to Wannon, with minor changes to the proposed boundary change around Inverleigh.
Corangamite will consist of Borough of Queenscliffe, part of the Golden Plains Shire Council, part of the Greater Geelong City Council and part of the Surf Coast Shire Council.

The Augmented Electoral Commission considered written objections and comments, as well as the information presented at the online inquiry, before deciding the final names and boundaries and unanimously agreed to retain the name of the Division of Corangamite and to modify the boundaries of 20 of the electoral divisions initially proposed in March.
