Surf Coast youth to be recognised at annual awards
THE 2021 Surf Coast Shire Youth Awards are now open for nominations in a bid to celebrate the contributions made by young people throughout the region.
In its seventh year running, the awards will reward the achievements of young people in the areas of Arts, Community, Environment and Sport across the shire’s rural townships and regional community hubs.
The annual awards aim to recognise a diverse range of personal and community achievements, showcase and value the skills of young locals while rewarding them for their efforts.
Nominations will be accepted for contributions or achievements made by young people since the beginning of 2020 until now.
A statement made by the Surf Coast Youth Facebook said, “2020 was a tough year for many but no doubt there were still many young people doing amazing things”.
To win, nominees must be aged between 12 and 25 and live, work, study or recreate in the Surf Coast Shire.
Groups of young people are welcomed to apply including bands, community groups, group art projects and sporting teams.
The awards will be judged by a Surf Coast Shire councillor, Surf Coast Shire Council youth development team member and Surf Coast Shire young people.
Nominations close on Sunday, May 30, ahead of the award ceremony to be held on June 26 in the new Wurdi Baieer Stadium.
