Surfer injured at Bells Beach
A SURFER was taken to hospital after suffering what is suspected to be a head injury while in the water at Bells Beach this morning.
Torquay’s SES unit attended the scene at about 10.15am, and paramedics arrived about 30 minutes later.
An SES spokesperson said volunteers from the Torquay SES unit responded with a rescue carrier – a one-wheeled stretcher useful to carry patients over rough terrain – but it was ultimately not needed as two other surfers helped the injured male surfer to the boat ramp and into the care of the waiting paramedics.
An Ambulance Victoria spokesperson said the male patient was taken to University Hospital Geelong in a condition not believed to be critical.
