ON SUNDAY, Modewarre Football Netball Club and Modewarre Cricket Club faced off in a T20 game at Mt Moriac Reserve to raise money for the fire-affected town of Buchan in Gippsland.

Approximately $14,000 were raised for Buchan’s Football, Netball and Cricket clubs.

The teams featured some big names, too. Geelong Cats ruckman Rhys Stanley took to the field along with former Cats players Nathan Ablett and David Wojcinski.

Modewarre football club member and one of the event organisers Nathan Lacey said all who participated and spectated had a great day.

“It was really good. Everyone had a fun day and the weather held off for us, which was nice.”

Plenty of volunteer hours went into organising and running the event, with local business also contributing prizes to the auction.

Mr Lacey said the auction the club held also garnered plenty of interest.

“We auctioned off quite a few quite a few different prizes. We had an auctioneer that auctioned off all our prizes and all our gear that we had donated from our major sponsors from the day.”

The president of Buchan Football Netball Club, Matthew Whelan made the trip down for the game along with some players from the club.
