THE Rip Curl Pro VIP Tent at Bells Beach was packed on Sunday as more than 150 community members attended the fourth annual Torquay Boardriders Club (TBC) Easter Luncheon.

The luncheon is the club’s major fundraiser so the club can continue its junior surfing programs and assist its senior surfers to continue participating in competitions such as the Australian Boardriders Battle.

Molly Picklum is interviewed at the luncheon.

Elite surfers and familiar sporting figures were part of the proceedings, including WSL top-ranked surfer Molly Picklum, Championship Tour surfers Griffin and Crosby Colapinto, and current and former Carlton AFL players Charlie Curnow and Ed Curnow entertaining guests.

TBC secretary Fraser Clatworthy said the event was held at Bells Beach for the first time in its four-year span, having previously been hosted at Jan Juc Surf Life Saving Club.

“Hats off to the World Surfing League and Rip Curl for making the venue possible, it was a great way for them to connect with the community in this way.

“We’re still counting our amount raised from the day but it’s in excess of $20,000, which will go a long way for our junior development and our senior crew as well.

“To have the surfers there and the Curnow brothers was awesome – the Carlton boys brought the house down, while the Colapinto boys did struggle to keep up with the Aussie slang at times.

“But it was just an awesome event this year with a perfect backdrop to accompany it.”

The event was MCd by Neil Ridgway and TBC president Tully Wylie, while Jarosite Band provided tunes.
