Ted Whitten Jnr to speak at Anglesea Baptist Men’s Breakfast
THE Surf Coast community will get the chance to hear from the inspirational Ted Whitten Jnr at the Anglesea Baptist Church EJ Whitten Men’s Breakfast this Saturday, September 17.
For several years, the Anglesea Baptist Church has run a men’s breakfast to connect the community, and event organiser Alan Smith and Ted Whitten Jnr began discussions after connecting by chance at a dinner at a friend’s house.
After his father passed away from prostate cancer, Mr Whitten Jnr has made it his mission to do all he can to raise funds for the disease through his charity organisation Rule.
Mr Whitten Jnr has also championed prostate cancer research through his work in seting up the EJ Whitten Legends football match which also fundraises for the disease.
According to event organiser Alan Smith, the Whitten family has a long association with the area of Anglesea and Mr Whitten Jnr was thrilled to be involved in promoting prostate health within the Surf Coast.
“Ted was very enthusiastic to put his hand up to speak at the event and we are very excited that someone of his calibre is going to come and share his knowledge on prostate health,” Mr Smith said.
“With September being Prostate Awareness Month, we thought it was never a better time to put the event together and we can’t wait to hear from him.”
The event will be held at the Anglesea Football Club this year, and Smith said the club had been remarkably accommodating with lending the space for the morning festivities.
The Anglesea Baptist Church have also organised local urologist Paul Kearns to come and answer questions and provide vital and helpful information to the men in attendance.
“The event is not a fundraiser from our point of view, but the organisation that Ted runs, Rule, will be showcased and promotional material will be there for people to buy with proceeds going straight to research,” Mr Smith said.
“Plenty of men don’t do enough about their prostate cancer when they are young, so the hope is to certainly get the message across to males that it’s something that needs to be looked after.”
Tickets are available to the EJ Whitten Men’s Breakfast, which will run from 8.30-10am, online at angleseabaptist.org.au/donations/events2
