ONE of the greats of the Geelong Football Club graced Spring Creek Reserve on Saturday, as the Torquay Football Club welcomed Gary Ablett Jr to its 12th annual Before The Game function.

Tigers vice president Tim Carson again took on the role of interviewer, asking the two-time premiership player and dual Brownlow Medallist sometimes known as “The Little Master” about his playing career and life since his retirement after the 2020 AFL Grand Final.

“It was a terrific day, it really was,” Mr Carson said.

“For our 12th event, Gary did not disappoint, he was excellent and enthralled our over 240 guests for the duration of the event.

“He spoke about his family, his dad, his footy career, post-footy career, what made him a great footballer.

“It was also a testament to what he is like as a great person, he would not speak ill of anybody, and we were thrilled he was able to join us on the day.”

More than 240 guests were in attendance for the event.

Mr Carson said one of the memorable moments from the interview was when

Ablett talked about his move to the Gold Coast and the pressure that came with being part of the early stages of the Gold Coast Suns.

Guests were able to interact with Ablett following the interview, prior to the senior football game beginning on McCartney Oval.

Mr Carson said the guest for the 13th Before The Game event in 2025 had yet to be decided and would be announced in due course.
