Three dead, one missing in plane crash

THREE people have been killed and one more is missing after a plane crash off the coast of the Bellarine Peninsula last week.

The light aircraft crashed into the ocean, about two kilometres off Collendina Beach between Barwon Heads and Point Lonsdale, just before 12.30pm on Friday.

It is not yet known what caused the plane to crash.

Police have confirmed a 68-year-old Noble Park man, a 63-year-old Black Rock woman, a 65-year-old Black Rock man and a 55-year-old Mordialloc man were on board the aircraft which took off from the Moorabbin airport on Friday morning.

A fisherman who was out on the water at the time witnessed the crash and reported the incident to emergency services.

Three bodies were located among the wreckage on Friday afternoon, however, the fourth person is yet to be located, although police are not expecting to find them alive.

At the time of print, police continued to search underwater using remote operated vehicles and a surface search operation was also under way.

Police have asked that anyone who finds debris from the wreckage to leave it where it is and to contact police with the location.
