THE 2023 Tiger Drop has gone down as a roaring success, with hundreds of people coming together to raise more than $50,000 for the Torquay football, netball and cricket clubs.

Held on Sunday, April 2, the event saw spectators cast their eyes over a huge crane in the sky in the hope that their chosen golf ball would drop closest to pin and award them a healthy $15,000 prize.

As the 1000 golf balls fell, the winners were announced, with Stu Costa taking out the major $15,000 prize for being closest to pin.

The second-place winner was William Davie who took home $3,500, while Lisa Ham was third closest to pin and was awarded $1000.

Outside of the prize money ball drop, the day involved plenty of fun activities for the family, including live music, children’s activities and plenty of food and beverage options.

Torquay Tigers Football Club vice president Tim Carson said the event committee was rapt with the level of support from the community.

“We had a really good crowd and we were very happy with the overall day…. the weather was also absolutely great,” Mr Carson said.

“It was just a fantastic family friendly day… we had our junior day before the Tiger Drop, and it was pleasing to see so many kids running around having so much fun.

“Some of own club people were winners on the day, including life member Billy Davies and Lisa Ham, who is a mother of two of our senior players.

“It’ll give a really good cash injection to all three of the clubs and we are very thankful to the community for getting behind it.”

Mr Carson said the club will look to improve a range of their facilities with the $50,000 proceeds from the event.

“We’ve done the scoreboard before, and the resurfacing of the netball courts and the clubrooms from past Tiger Drop fundraisers,” Mr Carson said.

“We will make sure they go into improving the facilities across the board once again in 2023.”
