Tim Carson nominated as a regional achiever
LONG-serving Torquay Tigers stalwart Timothy Carson has been nominated for the South West TAFE & Deakin University South West Regional Achiever Award in this year’s Victorian Regional Achievement and Community Awards.
The Regional Achiever Award is open to residents of the south west and applauds our high achievers, unsung heroes and volunteers, acknowledging excellence in their chosen profession or field of endeavour.
Mr Carson, who was made a life member of the Tigers this year, has been on the club’s committee for a number of years, running the club’s sponsorship program and starting a number of major events such as the annual “Before the Game” function (which recently marked its eighth year), the annual Tiger Drop, reverse raffle night, and annual golf day.
“All of these events help the entire Torquay community generate much-needed funds that help run the Torquay football, netball and cricket clubs.”
He said this was especially needed to pay for uniforms and equipment for the football club’s 29 football teams and more than 450 Auskick participants, as well as the cricket club’s 12 teams and 100 junior participants.
Mr Carson estimated he would volunteer at least four to five hours a week – or about 250 hours a year – to the club to organise major events and sponsorship, outside of “working behind the bar on a game day or cooking hamburgers on the odd Thursday night”.
Judging for the 2018 Victorian Regional Achievement and Community Awards will take place on August 29, with finalists presented and winners announced at an awards gala presentation dinner on October 26.
Nominations are still open in all award categories – head to awardsaustralia.com/vicraca.
