FAMILIES across the Surf Coast Community are invited to an afternoon of fun, food and fundraising today (May 18.)

The Jan Juc Community Playgroup, run out of the Bob Pettitt Cricket Club rooms, is hosting a Family Fun Fiesta with plenty of entertainment for children of all ages.

The local playgroup is a non-for profit and relies heavily on community spirit, volunteering and fundraising to continue supporting the community.

Playgroup president Whitney Phillips said the funds raised from the Fiesta would go towards allowing the playgroup to continue.

“There are no other revenue streams apart from our memberships which are $45 for the whole year, that would barely cover the tea, coffee and biscuits that we provide.

Funds raised from the event will go back into facilitating the playgroup and ensuring it continues in the community.

“We need to have a fundraiser to cover utilities and hire of the Cricket Club room, it’s really for our continuation.”

Supported by a grant from the Surf Coast Shire, the event will feature kids’ entertainer Nicholas Ridiculous, a silent auction, free jumping castle, bake sale, bar drinks and more.

Everyone is encouraged to wear their brightest colours while the adults are asked to bring their own cups to enjoy sangria, beer and bubbles.

Ms Phillips said she hopes from the fiesta, there’s a sense of community and an ability for young families to connect.

“It can be hard sometimes to see the whole family on most Tuesdays and Thursdays at playgroup sessions.

The Family Fun Fiesta will include entertainment from Nicholas the Ridiculous, a free jumping castle, bake sale and more.

“One person might be at work and the other children might be at school or kinder, so it’s nice to just bring the whole family together and also be a source for other young families to meet each other.”

Jan Juc Community Playgroup runs from 9.30am until 11.30am on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Bob Pettitt Cricket Club rooms.
